May :
Hi there! I work at a shelter with like a million cats, best advice I can give based off what we do and my own experience: Definitely give him both wet and dry kitten food, you can ween him off around 10 months. We give our kittens about half a can of wet food mixed with warm water. Some cats don’t drink water as often as they should so adding it to the wet food helps or even a stainless water fountain. If he’s being picky or having runny poops, you can sprinkle some cat probiotic powder on his kibble or wet food and they tend to eat it better. As for age, because he’s pretty small/young, you might be able to tell how old he is based off his weight. They tend to grow a pound a month up until like 5-6 months and then at the point it’s a guessing game. Definitely try to get him in for his fvrcp vaccine and to be dewormed (he can still have microscopic parasites that you can’t see), he might be too small for rabies but you can check with his vet. Like someone else said, metal litter boxes especially with low dusting litter if you can afford it (it’s not great for them to inhale dust all the time). Get him used to touching his paws and face, it’ll make taking him to vet or clipping his nails so much easier. One last thing, please try to get him fixed when he’s big enough, if it’s too pricey at your vet, check if there’s any rescues that might offer help for cheaper! Keep him inside if you can’t do it, kitten season is no joke haha. Not only does it help with the cat population but if done young he shouldn’t spray at all in the future. Hope this helps and if you have any questions, just let me know! Enjoy your new fur baby
