Interestingly, in the DVD audio commentary, actor Gunnar Hansen revealed that the dance had originally been planned for an earlier scene. In the screenplay, following Franklin’s death, as Sally flees Leatherface and runs toward the gas station, the killer was supposed to stop at the corner of the building and begin dancing and twirling his chainsaw, expressing his frustration. Director Tobe Hooper, however, ultimately cut the scene to preserve the suspense and avoid revealing Leatherface’s connection to the Sawyer family too early. The idea was later incorporated into the film’s ending, cementing a sequence that would become an essential part of the franchise’s identity.
