Replying to @rags_by_the_dozen I think a lot of us confuse “this skill feels incredibly basic to me” with “nobody ever had to teach me this skill.” We grew up hearing phones ring in our houses. We answered them. We called friends. We overheard adults making appointments, calling businesses and dealing with all kinds of boring adulty shit. And even with all that exposure, somebody still had to teach us that calling your friend and calling a doctor’s office were two very different fucking conversations. Today’s teens grew up in a completely different communication environment. That doesn’t mean we lower the expectation that they learn these skills. It means we teach them, give them opportunities to practice, and then expect increasing independence. “I learned this so long ago that I don’t remember learning it” is not the same as “nobody taught me.” ❤️🤟🏻🌿 #UNFUCKYOURSELF #THEPOTTYMOUTHGURU #ParentingTeens #GenZ #TeenParenting
