Sri Lankan Pidi Kolukattai ❤️ This is a traditional Sri Lankan recipe that brings back so many childhood memories. My grandma used to make these for us, and honestly, she makes the best kolukattai! 🥹❤️ This recipe is from her, and it’s so special to me. Rice flour dumplings are enjoyed in many countries around the world, with different names and variations in each culture. Does anyone else have sweet childhood memories of eating kolukattai made by your grandma? 🥹❤️ Tell me in the comments! I’d love to hear your memories too. Sri Lankan Pidi Kolukattai Makes 12 kolukattai Ingredients Rice flour – 2 cups Mung beans – ¼ cup Grated coconut – 1 cup Grated jaggery – 1 cup Cardamom powder – ½ tsp Salt – a pinch Water – ¾ cup for the syrup, plus extra boiling water if needed You can also use a mixture of jaggery and sugar instead of jaggery alone. Method 1. Dry-roast the mung beans in a pan over medium heat until their colour changes slightly. Transfer them to a mortar and pestle, crush them into small pieces, and set aside. 2. In the same pan, lightly roast the rice flour, stirring continuously. Do not let it change colour too much. 3. Add the crushed mung beans, roasted rice flour, grated coconut, cardamom powder, and salt to a large bowl. Mix well. 4. In a separate pan, add the grated jaggery and ¾ cup of water. Heat until the jaggery melts completely and the syrup comes to a boil. There is no need to check for any particular syrup consistency. 5. Pour the hot jaggery syrup into the flour mixture and mix well with a spoon. 6. Allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortable to handle. Knead with your hands until it forms a soft dough. If the mixture is too dry, gradually add a little boiling water as needed. 7. Pinch off small portions of the dough and press each portion in your palm to form the traditional pidi kolukattai shape, leaving clear finger impressions on the surface. 8. Arrange the kolukattai on a greased steamer plate, leaving a little space between them. 9. Steam for 15–20 minutes, or until cooked through. Your traditional Sri Lankan Pidi Kolukattai is ready to enjoy! #pidikozhukattai #kolukattai #srilankan #srilankanfood #trendingreels
