This short page, the Audiototext homepage, gets 130,000 Google clicks a month and ranks for 3,150 keywords. It has 438 visible words, plus 600 words in a dropdown FAQ. If you think SEO pages need lots of words, this proves the opposite. You need the right words. If you think you need high domain authority, this site is only 18/100. You need the right backlinks. That is why this page did so well. James Dooley on my podcast (ep1171): “audiototext.com started with about 120 words and a simple tool: upload audio, get the spoken words as text. It got shared across social media and earned lots of backlinks. Google started understanding that audio also meant MP3, so it began ranking for terms like MP3 to text tool and MP3 to text software, even though those exact words were not on the page. Then it started ranking for modifiers like free, cheap and best. Those terms appeared only after the page started getting clicks, links and social mentions. Now it ranks for nearly every modifier, but it did not at first. The founder vibe coded the tool, it gained traction, and Google Search Console started showing new queries. He then added FAQs answering those queries, including MP3 and free to use. None of that was there during the initial traffic boom. Google first surfaced the homepage because it trusted the domain. Then it augmented the search to match intent. This is a classic case of building a brand, getting social mentions, links and internal links. Once the page ranks, keep strengthening it and the whole site can enter a positive ranking state.” So the strategy is: Publish your content. Get backlinks and social mentions that describe it in related ways. In Google Search Console, go to Performance, turn on Average Position, then filter for Position > 3. You will get a list of phrases you are close to ranking #1 for. Add those words and phrases strategically throughout the page so it pattern matches to more keywords. Turn the cycle into a loop. Your traffic graph hits an upwards trajectory. You can do this. #searchengineoptimization #seo #digitalmarketing #buildinpublic

Just a reminder that even if you create a category, you might not rank on Google for the category you created. GoPro pretty much created the category action camera. Action camera gets a lot of searches every month. This is what the first page of Google looks like for action camera: Not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro, not GoPro. If you search “site:WEBSITEURL keyword”, you can see a website's closest optimized page for the keyword that you add. GoPro's best page for the keyword action camera only has it in the page title. It's not in the URL slug. The URL slug just says cameras. It's not in the H1, a critical place to put the keyword. GoPro created this category, but they don't show on page one of Google for the keyword “action camera”. Their competitors show. Most companies get the fundamentals wrong. Take your target keyword, put it in the page title, URL slug, H1, beginning of the first sentence. You don't even have to put it in other places on your page. Answer the searcher's intent above the fold before people start scrolling. Build a handful of backlinks to your website. Most companies don't even know to do these fundamentals, but the fundamentals will take you very, very far. And if you want to save years learning search engine optimization that specifically gets paying customers, users, warm leads calling you on the phone, head over to compactkeywords.com #searchengineoptimization #seo #ecommerce #digitalmarketing
