When I first found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I genuinely believed it would cure my depression. I thought “how can you be depressed with a new lil bestie to always hang with and snuggle with and kiss and just love endlessly?” In a way, becoming a mom did cure parts of my depression. When my daughter is happy, I’m happier. Her laugh is infectious and it genuinely tingles my soul. Hearing her laugh and seeing her eyes light up with excitement in such a harsh world makes me feel like I’m doing something right here, finally. But the truth is, becoming a mom has opened a new door of grief for me, and a different level of depression I never even expected. It’s made me grieve my parents so much harder, realizing all of the sacrifices they made for me growing up and actually how much love goes in to parenting. My parents gave me an amazing childhood. They did the best that they could, given what they had and for that I am so so grateful. Raising a child without your parents is hard man. The flashbacks to my childhood, all the memories of my parents that I hold so close to me, all the times I sit here and think about all the hugs and kisses and “I love yous” they destroyed me with as a baby. What I would do for just one more. My circle is small, and maybe that’s my choice for reasons I have deep down inside of me that I’m not ready to get to yet. For now, I’ll continue to focus on my mental health & making sure my daughter grows up happy, healthy & loved🫶🏼🌸 #motherhood #parentloss #grief #mentalhealthmatters #fyp
