What this really means is the wealthy would rather import cheap labour than pay a native a living wage. You’d struggle to find an unemployed Brit who would be unwilling to work these roles if the wages were liveable.

Benefits should be paid on a special card that you can only buy groceries and fuel nothing else. Rent directly to landlords. Someone on benefits should not be getting more than someone on minimum wage.

the trouble is, foreign workers will generally take lower pay than a British worker. That puts the incentive on keeping wages low, and employing people who'll work for that.

It a bit of a mix. The other angle is immigrants are mostly working in short term contract roles so turnover is high. Many Britons aim for longer term employment.
