The family has already paid thousands of dollars toward Cohen’s deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. On a new plan, that progress could disappear. And Cohen would still be lying in a hospital bed. Halloween will come and go while he recovers. So Pleasanton did not wait for it. Neighbors put together an early Halloween for him. One car after another rolled past his house, carrying treats, with people waving at the boy inside. A little boy with a hard week ahead got to watch his town show up for him.
