@drj1189: Black women are approximately 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women, despite having a slightly lower incidence of the disease. And for Black women under 50, the disparity is even greater. Yes, differences in tumor biology play a role, including higher rates of aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. But we cannot have this conversation without acknowledging the systemic inequities in screening, diagnosis, follow-up, and access to timely, high-quality treatment. Early detection saves lives, but what happens AFTER detection matters just as much. If you’re 40 or older, make sure you’re up to date on your mammograms. If you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need earlier screening or genetic counseling. And regardless of your age, never ignore a new breast symptom. Please share this with the Black women in your life. We deserve early detection, timely treatment, and equitable care at every step. #BreastCancerAwareness #BlackWomensHealth #BreastCancerScreening #Mammogram #HealthEquity

My mom got her routine mammogram and they caught her cancer so early, she was cancer free in MONTHS. An outpatient surgery to remove the tumor and 5 days of radiation that totaled an hour of her time. GET YOUR MAMMOGRAM

As a white woman I will say when I went in with a lump and I have very large breast's I was immediately took seriously and had an appt in 2 weeks for a mammogram. I also had a same day ultrasound to verify 100%. And honestly it breaks my heart that it's not like that for every single woman. Regardless of her race, age or even weight ( my Dr told me some Dr's woulda shrugged me off because of my breast size stating it's just breast tissue)

apparently to my moms doctor she had stage 4 women problems. thats what they told her "she was just having women problems". by the time a doctor at the er found it, it was too late. my mom begged her doctors for years for help. they kept telling her it was nothing. now shes dead after suffering for months.

Even before you reach mammogram age, always do your monthly self breast exams no matter how young of a woman you are, any changes get it looked at ASAP! Catching early signs can save your life! My auntie had very aggressive rare breast cancer, the symptom she noticed was a patch of flakey dimpled skin about the size of a nickel and she got checked immediately, if she'd have ignored that seemingly small change in her breast she wouldn't have lived, she had a double radical mastectomy and radiation

This is true for maternal mortality rates, I wrote about this for my social psych final too! Implicit bias within healthcare is a big factor in it, black women are and always have been more likely to receive lower quality care
