Bestie, some leases are now demanding 60 days notice to cancel, sometimes even two or three months. That is almost certainly an unfair term under Section 48 of the Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits unreasonable or one sided contract clauses. The standard under the CPA is 20 business days written notice, and any penalty must be reasonable. Demanding 60 days notice imposes an excessive burden on you and is unlikely to hold up before a Tribunal. If your landlord tries to enforce a 60 day notice, especially after you've already moved out, challenge it. The NCC has flagged these clauses in past disputes, and the Tribunal has repeatedly cut them down. Know your rights, bestie. I'm not a lawyer, I just read a lot of law. #kekeville #edutainment #YouKnowWhatsIllegal #CPA #ConsumerRights
