Abbey is a Gestalt language processor in her Autism. She has an incredible episodic memory. But these memories can pop in her head at any time and pull her out of the current moment, making engaging in conversation very difficult. She will talk about the memory before she can access the feeling words themselves. She also puts things in categories of good and bad as a way of referencing the world. We have come up with strategies to help her access the appropriate words so that she can be understood. And just her own awareness that this is how her mind works has helped tremendously.
