🤷🏻‍♀️ Have you ever had a child’s first taken from you? Or if you’re a grandparent how do you feel about this topic? I just think it’s so unfair. 😫 For Ryan and I, it felt like, hey, you had your turn, this is our chance to experience this... come on. And one of our firsts got taken when our kid was already old enough to remember it. Man, that one was hard to swallow… 🤯 I understand some firsts are unavoidable - first words (I don’t think I’d even tell the parent. IDK) or first steps (again, I might just keep my mouth shut - is that wrong???) Back to this story, if I were this new mom, the biggest thing I'd feel is worried! My husband and I just aren't on the same page. Being a solid parental team is HUGE when it comes to relaxing into family dynamics. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Who'd you be more upset with, the MIL who excludes you or the husband who goes along with it? And what's going on with the MIL? I love that Kim isn't blaming her but let's try and understand this behavior more… Tonight's podcast actually is about this pattern, the inability to sit with discomfort because that skill was never taught as a child. On the surface it seems like the MIL still wants the ex-wife back in the picture and though that may be a part of it. What also could be happening is an avoidance of grieving the loss of the relationship because she doesn't have the capacity for BIG scary emotions. Grief, loss, sadness, they are all such intense feelings and some who were never taught how to sit with discomfort and know they will survive, treat big scary feelings like life or death so they avoid. She may love the ex-wife deeply or she may not know how to let go because that requires us to go thru a lot of pain. So this isn't something for Kim to fix, it's just something good to be aware of so that if it shows up with one of your family members you can spot it and not take it personal because it's not about you.
