I went to a steakhouse on a cruise and I wasn’t expecting much but I wanted to go bc the restaurant was beautiful and it was included in my package. They made me the absolute most divine Chick Pea Multi Layered kind of meat pie and sent out multiple course of seared and charred proteins and veggies. My family made fun of me bc I started crying but it truly gets so hard to constantly feel left out or that these places dgaf, it was so nice to actually have a substitute that still was a whole meal and still was invested in creating an experience for me as a customer that aligned with the brand of the restaurant. It was 20/10 but now it makes these situations sting for me even more bc I’ve finally felt the feeling of consideration😭😭😭

I’m not a vegan but I’ve considered becoming a vegan chef because it sincerely CANNOT be that hard to have diverse plant-based options on a menu. Why does everyone avoid this niche like the plague when there are so many delicious vegetables and fruits out there???

One time I got served cucumbers with hummus not an actual meal it was just like a snack plate but I had no option to look what was on for vegan meals on the restaurant website I was starving😭

I worked as a chef at one of these places and the vegan option was a 'cauliflower steak' which was just a big fuck off slice of cauliflower served on the tiniest smudge of sweet potato mash. When I tried asking if they think someone would be content eating that I got "well he's the head chef so he knows better than you" I also once had to take over from the sous because he started making it and put butter in it, he said "if they want it vegan, they'll ask" and I said "if it says vegan on the menu then they fucking expect it to be vegan" keeping in mind I was the lowest ranking chef in the kitchen but the only one who had a hygiene certificate 🤦🏽♀️

I went to a nice restaurant and ordered a vegan burger once… when it came it was a piece of cauliflower on a bun. I asked the waitress if that was right as that wasn’t what was described and she said they had run out of vegan patties so thought we wouldn’t notice 🥲🙃🫠

For my parents 50th wedding anniversary, we went on this boat tour near Orlando. My mom called ahead to request a vegan option for me. For the appetizer, I got a small plate of iceberg lettuce (nothing else). For the entree, I got a large plate of iceberg lettuce. Thank goodness for the salt and pepper that I found to add. 😏
