He became Chancellor of Germany in 1933 after his party rose to power in the Weimar Republic. In 1934, he assumed the title of *Führer und Reichskanzler*. Under his leadership, Germany's invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, triggered the outbreak of World War II. Hitler's aggressive foreign policy is considered the primary cause of the war's eruption in Europe. His antisemitic policies and racist ideology led to the deaths of millions of people—including 5.5 million Jews—whom he deemed members of "inferior races." His political career, which began when he joined the German Workers' Party (DAP) in 1919, continued as the party transformed into the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) in 1920; he rose to the party leadership in 1921. A hurdle standing in the way of his election as Chancellor was his stateless status between 1925 and 1932. To overcome this obstacle, he was appointed to a civil service position at the Brunswick state representation office in Berlin—an appointment made by Dietrich Klagges, the then-Minister of the Interior and a member of the Thule Society—thereby gaining civil servant status and acquiring German citizenship. In 1933, he became Chancellor (*Reichskanzler*) upon being appointed to lead the country's new coalition government. In 1934, he assumed the office of President (*Reichspräsident*) and created the head-of-state title of *Führer* (Leader), holding both the offices of head of state and head of government under the title *Führer und Reichskanzler*. His dictatorship ended with his suicide on April 30, 1945. He initiated World War II in Europe on September 1, 1939, with the invasion of Poland. Throughout the war, he was closely involved in military operations and played a central role in the perpetration of the Holocaust. Hitler gained momentum from the Great Depression that struck Germany following World War I. Using propaganda and compelling rhetoric, he offered hope regarding the economic demands of the lower and middle classes; his ideology encompassed racist nationalism, a form of "socialism" redefined by the Nazis as nationalist collectivism, antisemitism, and anti-communism. Through economic reconstruction, military rearmament, and a totalitarian, fascist regime, Hitler restored order within Germany; having created a powerful nation, he pursued an aggressive foreign policy and invaded Poland to expand German "living space" (*Lebensraum*). Employing *Blitzkrieg* (lightning war) tactics and the Axis alliance, he occupied much of Europe as well as parts of Asia and Africa. The German army began to retreat following the United States' entry into World War II on the side of the Allies and the advance of the Red Army. Germany's defeat became certain when Soviet forces entered Berlin on April 23, 1945. On April 30, 1945, Hitler committed suicide alongside his wife, Eva Hitler (Eva Braun), in an underground bunker (the *Führerbunker*) in occupied Berlin. In accordance with his will, his body was burned by his followers. The Greater German Reich came to an end with the instrument of surrender signed by Alfred Jodl on May 7, 1945, which took effect the following day. #History #politica #worldwar2 #germany #fyp
