MÚGÚMO WA MÚGO WA KÍBÍRÚ Revered Kikuyu seer Mugo wa Kibiru spoke of a vision he had, a prophecy that would mark the turning of an era. He foretold that when a sacred Mugumo tree standing near the Chania River in Thika fell, foreign rule in the land would come to an end. The British,especially after witnessing other prophecies fulfilled,moved swiftly to challenge fate. Tey bound and surrounded the ancient tree with a heavy iron ring, believing they could hold back history and delay the freedom struggle. In December 1963, as if in obedience to Mugo’s vision, the tree fell. Days later, Kenya raised her flag of independence, breaking free from colonial chains. In 1969, President Jomo Kenyatta visited Thika. At the very spot where the fallen tree lay & within the iron band the colonizers left, Mzee planted a new Mugumo seedling which stands till today. #nyimbociitu #kikuyuisbae
