But we keep forgetting that they are getting paid for each episode, so most of them are going forward (with whomever) for as long as they can. That's why we see them in situations that we (and they) would definitely not be in real life

As a fellow Kosovare , I gotta admit you scratched a wound. Collectively as a nation we haven’t admitted yet the extent the trauma that the war and the oppression before that led to it, has affected our psyche. Surely , Benita is in a show, but the patterns definitely are visible

I’m 1-year younger than Benita and a refugee from Kosovo but I honestly don’t believe that being a 2-years old refugee was a major factor, she wouldn’t have memories of the war and it would mainly be be the immigrant experience that shaped her. Maybe I’m wrong as she lives in the US and I live in the UK so can visit Kosovo often. But knowing the cultural context with her being an Albanian from Kosovo, I do think its because we often date to marry and just dating is considered as being exclusive. We don’t really ask someone to be our gf/boyfriend, you’re just exclusive from dating

sorry to say, after getting out of an awful marriage, you seem like someone who justifies abusive behavior and basically says to people "ahh theyre treating you badly?? they must be suffering as well" .... not really what helps someone leave an abusive relationship
