My cousin went to a smaller, private university in CA and she said she ran into this a lot there too. No financial aid, nothing. Parents would buy apartments for them to live in off campus etc. Some of her classmates straight up said “you have to live ON campus? Can’t your dad just buy you an apartment to live in????”

I told him I had spent some time the night before reading the lease for my new apartment and he asked very genuinely why I didn’t just have my lawyer do that for me. And didn’t understand that not everyone just. Has one on retainer
