Use gum turps to thin the paint for the under painting.

All paintings need an underpainting. I suggest taking a paper towel with linseed oil and scrubbing whatever paint you have laid down and spreading it accross the whole painting, wait a day then start over. I also HATE linseed oil, it’s not the safest to use and not effective as solvent free fluid.

I heavily dislike the way paint behaves on canvas if its not super, duper prepped! I do 2 layers of gesso (first layer in horizontal strokes, then 2nd layer in vertical strokes to get the most even base) then I sand it down! it makes it flatter but also makes your paint glide easier!

you could also paint on your canvas with water before you paint it’ll help spread and move that paint around without having to use so much!! Also start with a base layer

Add just the tiniest smidgen of oil paint thinner I'm talking a drop with a dropper, also priming your canvas with a thinned white wash helps

I use water soluble oils so the thinners are a bit different 😭 but I’m learning it apparently does matter what order you use thinners and oils in to prevent cracking paint

If you have the funds, gamsol is the thinner I use and it can give the same vibe as water color. Also it could be that you just need to take a little less paint pigment and then mix it with linseed oil to make a more viscous paint mixture. If gamsol is out of budget regular odorless paint thinner can also work from your local hardware store just be sure you’re in a well ventilated space!

tbh it looks like your paint is the right consistency, you'll just need multiple layers to hide the streaky-ness. my yellow ochre does the same thing

do an impramatura(simoly doing a thin layer of turpentine mixed paint then let it sit for like 15 mins and then use a rag to remove all the excess paint from the canvas) and then instead of pure linseed oil you can try a tuepentine(or gamsol whatever) linseed stand oil mix or liquin linseed stand oil turpentine mix is good for less brushstrokes and slower drying time liquin also means less brushstrokes but faster drying time. You can also mix some transparent paint into ur most opaque ones. ■ means fully opaque □means fully transparent half full means half opaque etc u get the ideo u can see this on the packaging if u use only the opaque paint it will be thick

Gesso and sand the heck out of your surface. It’s drinking up all the paint which is why it’s doing that!

Try again with a different canvas lay down a thin layer of zinc white first and paint over that. Oil paint is meant to spread not clump. This may be controversial but watch boss ross painting videos he uses lots of oil paints in his work I feel that will help you in your process. I struggled with oil paint in school and didn’t understand it either. As an adult learning from bob Ross I understand it a little better.

Your canvas may be primed but it still has some tooth to it so maybe gesso layers would help

Paint thinner make sure your space is ventilated I like to soak my brush in thinner do my thin lines and make it thicker as I go, thin paint can be built up thick paint can’t be thinned down once it’s on cavas.

It’s your brush technique. You don’t need to add so much oil for the base layer. You need to really work the paint into the canvas.

id say underpaint tbh but thats just how i do it. it wont dry the same as acrylic either so the thickness can equal pigmentation

Your paintbrush is too thin and flat. You need a mop to absorb and scrub in paint.

How stiff is your brush? Maybe something firmer and/denser will push the paint better. Also a large brush will help create a more blended smoother surface

I know a lot of people dislike it but I actually looove linseed oil, odds are you’re not being generous enough with it, I straight up take a pallet knife and mix the paint like 60/40 with oil but I also like my first layer to be a little transparent so hold could do less, but just don’t be afraid to add more

I like to do a coat of acrylic paint (after gesso) for under painting - if you do that the canvas won’t absorb quite as much of the oil and it’ll be a bit easier!

Canvas labeled as primed still needs priming. I prime mine an additional 3 or 4 times even if they come tripple primed
