@therachadventures: One of America’s first penitentiaries… and one of Philadelphia’s most famously haunted places. Eastern State Penitentiary opened in 1829 and housed prisoners until 1971. Its revolutionary solitary-confinement system was designed to encourage reflection and rehabilitation, replacing the crowded prison conditions common at the time. This design influened prisons worldwide. Today, its abandoned cellblocks, eerie atmosphere, and reported paranormal activity have earned it a reputation as one of America’s most haunted places. We explored the prison on a self-guided audio tour. Admission includes the audio tour, exhibits, and art installations. We spent about two hours exploring. It’s an interesting Philadelphia stop for anyone who enjoys history with a little mystery! The history is real. The haunting stories? You decide. Would you explore these halls? #EasternStatePenitentiary #Philadelphia #HauntedPlaces #PhillyTravel #TravelUSA
