the Biggest problem is Canadian Society is that we do not Admit People with mental issues Need help !! many want to throw them in Jail and leave them there ! We need to open mental Hospitals instead of Jails !! Places that can Compassionately help the people fighting Addiction and mental issues. We use to have many but 99% have been shut Down.. we must change that.

Cons honestly have some fn nerve mandating mental health care when they are often in the greatest need of access to become free from cult influence.

I work in mental health and addiction. The failure in this are of our healthcare is unbelievable. I’ve worked at two treatment centres and I regularly add people to our waitlist only to find out that they passed because of addiction. I had to stop keeping count because it became to traumatic. B.C. only has 800 funded treatment beds. Friends and colleagues of mine that run a few treatment centres asked the government for a seat at the table for over five years. Finally they met with the NDP. They had evidence and published per reviewed studies on the success of RECOVERY CAPITAL. The NDP turned down their noses at it and we now have the crisis they were warned about. The free safe supply drugs ended up in the hands of organized crime that they received from the government and sold for a massive profit. Doctors that prescribed these narcotics had to transfer to different departments because they were so discouraged. The government funded Atria housing opened operations at the Howard Johnson Hotel and had 900 911 calls in one year. Instead of turning into a treatment center which would have been way cheaper it became a drug and crime syndicate. Alberta’s drug mortality rate has dropped 38% because of RECOVERY CAPITAL. The conservatives have supported RECOVERY CAPITAL for a long time thats why drug mortality has dropped so significantly in Alberta. Mandatory treatment is old news. Doctors, Nurses, Pilots, Teachers, are told get clean or lose your job. The list is long of employees that are sent to treatment or lose your job. Before they even arrive to treatment they sign a contract that they agree to because employers have to protect their companies. I’m so over the NDP.

I’m not sure people are taking this seriously enough. If you look at the Nuremberg trials, it is said that the holocaust couldn’t have happened without psychiatry. That’s not to say psychiatry today is bad. Only that the original institutions where the death chambers got perfected were psychiatric institutions. Then disabled people and so on Let’s not pretend that involuntary care facilities are anything less than a way to round up undesirables. If not that, then make them voluntary, then these centres would fill up immediately with people on wait lists for mental health care.
