@thesportsontap: He is five foot eight. He has hit 21 home runs in his entire Major League career. Tonight he hit one to tie a World Series game. His name is Sal Frelick and he plays right field for the Milwaukee Brewers. At Lexington High School in Massachusetts he played quarterback. As a senior he threw for 1,940 yards and 30 touchdowns, and ran for another 1,779 yards and 20 more. That is 50 touchdowns in one high school season. He was the Gatorade player of the year for the state. In football. Steve Addazio offered him a football scholarship to Boston College. Boston College was the only school in the country that wanted him for baseball. The baseball coach there, Mike Gambino, told him what that meant. "If you're coming here, you're just playing baseball." He thought about leaving for a school that would let him do both. Gambino asked if he was looking past college. He realized he was not. "My degree was the main reason I went to BC." He graduated in December of 2021, taking summer classes while riding minor league buses. The Brewers took him 15th overall that July. In 2024 he won a Gold Glove in right field. His mother Patty calls him scooch. It is Italian slang for a pain in the neck, and she has called him that since he was a toddler who would not stay put. He hugs her after games. Be honest about this season. It was not a good one. He hit .230. In July he went on the injured list with a torn labrum in his shoulder and did not play for a month. He has never been a home run hitter. And his team has never won a World Series. They have been to exactly one, in 1982, and they lost it. They are up two games to none in this one. But a five foot eight outfielder who was a better football player, who got one baseball offer in the country, who hit .230 on a torn shoulder, tied Game 2 with one swing, and his team is up two games to none. When did you last pick the harder thing on purpose. #MLB #baseball #brewers #milwaukee #brewcrew

LET’S ENJOY ANOTHER STORY FROM OUR OLD READER. 📖 BS5-UNIT 19 A WISE AND JUST CHIFE People in the play: TOGBUI, the chief; TSIAMI, the linguist; FIRST ELDER; SECOND ELDER; THIRD ELDER; FOURTH ELDER; YAWA; MANSA; YAO, a servant; AUDIENCE. In the chief’s house TOGBUI: Now, Tsiami. I think we’re ready. Let the women speak. TSIAMI: Now, Yawa, Mansa, we’re ready. Tell us why you were fighting. Yawa, speak first. YAWA: Oh, Togbui, this woman [pointing to MANSA] and I have the same husband. We cook together. We eat together. We sleep together in the same room. Togbui, we do everything together. I had a baby boy, and after three days she also had a baby boy. Our babies look alike, and people even think they are twins; but they are not. Here they are. You can see they are alike. Last night, I woke up and wanted to feed my baby. When I lifted him up he was dead. But I saw that the dead baby was this woman’s baby, not mine. When her baby died, she put him near me, and took my living baby. I’ve asked her to give me my living baby but she doesn’t want to do so. TSIAMI: Togbui, Elders, this is what Yawa says. We will hear Mansa, too. TOGBUI: Now, Mansa, is this story true? What do you say? MANSA: Oh, Togbui, the baby is dead, and we all see it. But the living baby is my baby. YAWA: No, it’s not true; it’s a lie. The living baby is my baby. He is my baby. Mansa always tells lies. FIRST ELDER: Stop talking now, Yawa. Mansa should speak, not you. [There is a murmur among the AUDIENCE. The AUDIENCE agrees with the FIRST ELDER.] TSIAMI: Quiet! Quiet! TOGBUI: Mansa, how do you know the living baby is your baby? The two babies look alike. MANSA: I know that because of his round eyes and round cheeks. YAWA: [Shouting] My baby, too, has the same round eyes and round cheeks! SECOND ELDER: Keep quiet, Yawa! Togbui was not talking to you. TSIAMI: Now, Yawa, why do you say that Mansa took your living baby and put her dead baby in his place? YAWA: She hates me. I know that she could take my baby. She tells lies. She is a bad woman. THIRD ELDER: Don’t you think the living baby would cry when somebody took him away from where he slept? Don’t you think you could hear your own baby crying? What did you do when you heard your own baby crying? YAWA: I was asleep and I did not hear him crying. [There is a murmur from the AUDIENCE.] TSIAMI: Quiet! Quiet, everybody! FOURTH ELDER: You sleep very deeply then! Since you sleep so much, don’t you think you may have slept on your own baby, and killed him? You may not have known it! YAWA: No, no, Togbui. The living baby is my baby, I say! [TOGBUI whispers something to TSIAMI. Then TSIAMI speaks.] TSIAMI: We’ve heard from both of you. The Elders and I will go out and think about the matter. We’ll come back soon. To be continued in the comments section 💬…….
