@howitworkssss: Regular insulation materials fail at temperatures above 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This turbo blanket material woven from pulverized volcanic rock or high grade silica withstands direct contact with temperatures exceeding 1,500 degrees while remaining cool enough to hold ice on the other side. The insulation serves two critical purposes in high performance cars. First it keeps exhaust gases inside the turbo hot so they move faster and spin the turbine more efficiently reducing turbo lag. Second it acts as a shield preventing massive radiant heat from melting hoses, wiring, and paint in the engine bay. The temperature difference across a material thickness of just a few millimeters is over 1,400 degrees. That’s the same temperature gradient you’d experience going from a freezer directly into molten lava. #engineering #cars #turbo
