💉 1st Leucovorin Injection 💉 Today was Boyd’s very first leucovorin injection. I won’t lie. We were nervous. This medication comes as a powder that has to be reconstituted with sterile water before giving the injection. Since this was our first time mixing and drawing it up ourselves, we were learning as we went. Afterward, we realized we should have changed to a new needle after reconstituting the vial. The needle used to mix the medication can become dull, which likely made it much harder to get through his skin. We’ll use a fresh needle tomorrow and see if that makes the injection easier. In the past, Boyd’s injections have been intramuscular with very small needles. This needle was much larger, so it was definitely more intimidating for us. But Boyd did amazing. He whined just a little while we gave the injection. As soon as it was over, he got up, walked into the living room, and went right back to watching TV like nothing had happened. He is such a trooper. There was one thing we noticed afterward that really caught our attention. I cannot say whether it was from the injection because this was only day one, and I don’t want to jump to conclusions. For about an hour after his injection, Boyd seemed incredibly aware and engaged. I walked by him, stuck my tongue out, and made a silly sound. He immediately looked up at me, stuck his tongue out, and copied me. I made several other funny faces and gestures, and he copied those too. He just seemed much more tuned in to everything going on around him. After about an hour, that heightened awareness seemed to fade. Was it the leucovorin injection? I honestly don’t know. It could have been a coincidence. It could have been unrelated. One day is simply not enough to know. What I do know is that we’ll be watching closely, documenting everything we observe, and sharing both the positives and the challenges as we go. Thank you to everyone who has followed Boyd’s journey, prayed for him, encouraged us, and celebrated every small victory with us. We appreciate every one of you more than you’ll ever know.
