@physicalai.robot: MicroDuck is the kind of small humanoid robot that makes you want to look closer at the engineering. Small bipedal robots are useful for exploring ideas in locomotion, balance, joint control and robot learning without needing a full-sized humanoid platform. What interests me most is the combination of accessible hardware and motion learning. When robot designs and control methods are available to the community, researchers and developers can study how the robot moves, reproduce experiments and build on existing work. For bipedal robots, getting the model to walk is only one part of the job. The robot also needs to manage its balance, respond to changes in contact with the ground and recover when its motion deviates from the target. That is where simulation, reinforcement learning and real-world testing become relevant. A motion policy that works in simulation still needs to prove itself on physical hardware, where friction, motor limits and imperfect contact can affect the result. MicroDuck is worth following from this perspective. Small platforms can make robotics experiments more accessible, especially when the community can inspect the design and the software behind the movement. I’m interested in seeing how far this approach can go, from basic walking to more reliable dynamic motions. How much progress in humanoid locomotion could come from more open, low-cost platforms that people can actually build and test? #Robotics #HumanoidRobots #OpenSource #PhysicalAI
