@idthemoneyman: Let’s clear up the 25x rule… or what most people call the 4% “rule”. First things first, it’s not really a rule. It’s more of a guide. It’s based on research from the US, not the UK, so it’s hardly something you’d tattoo on your arm and follow blindly for the next 30 years. The basic idea is this: Based on historic returns, and assuming you don’t withdraw more than 4% a year from your investments, there’s a decent chance your money could keep paying you an income for the rest of retirement while keeping up with inflation too. Sounds tidy. But there are a lot of assumptions baked into that. Investment returns. Inflation. Timeframes. Behaviour. Market conditions. Sequence of returns. The lot. So yes, it can be useful, but it is very much a rough rule of thumb, not some magical retirement cheat code. That said, when you break the numbers down, they don’t actually look too scary in this example. And to be fair, having a 33-year timeframe to work with does some heavy lifting here. We’ve also got to factor in inflation, which has averaged around 3% in recent times, because there’s no point planning for tomorrow with today’s prices and pretending that’s realistic. ⚠️ Education only - not financial advice. Any figures stated are only a guide .The value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invested. #moneymoneymoney #retirementplanning #fintok #financialplanning #pension
