“What should have been a happy childhood moment became heartbreaking and distressing for him and deeply painful for our family to witness.”   Police in Florida have released body-camera footage and a 911 call recording after claims they were called to a children’s football game because a three-year-old player was “too good” went viral. The parents of a player called Nevada Pierre claim that every week “no one could take the ball from him” which some of the parents didn’t think was fair, “even though Nevada is three and the other players are five-years-old". On October 24, Winter Park Police Department (WPPD) officers said they were called to Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park by a youth sport’s director who said the “parents of a young player were being disruptive” and he wanted them to leave the park. In a 911 call, the sports director is heard saying “it’s not really an emergency”. He then explained he was dealing with an “unruly parent” who is “following me around, calling me names Infront of other parents” and recording him. Police were dispatched and body-camera footage shows the sports directed reiterating the situation to an officer, while admitting Nevada is “good, he’s great.... he’s very advanced compared to the other kids. He’s scoared a lot of goals”. The sport’s director goes on to allege Nevada was pushing other players, and he asked him to be removed from the game, which caused his mother, Martasia Griffin, to “create a big scene”. The boy’s parents dismiss this, saying Nevada was simply “doing the unthinkable at just three years of age”. “The League kicked Nevada out because every week they couldn’t take the ball from him,” they wrote on social media. In a social media post on Monday, WPPD wrote that the boy’s parents were already “in the process of leaving the park” when they arrived. The force clarified that “this call did not prompt officers to trespass any individuals and was considered a civil matters between the league and parents”. “Despite some social media rumours, there was never any suggestion that the call to police was prmoted over the child’s on field talent.” Ms Griffin has since launched a funraising page to support Nevada’s footballing journey. As of midday Tuesday, almost £18,000 had been donated. Writing on the page, Ms Griffin detailed how her son, under “guidance from his father”, Don Pierre, has “continued to build his skills and deepen his love for the game”. “Soccer is more than an activity for him. It is something that brings him joy and excitement and gives him a chance to learn and be part of a team,” she wrote. Speaking about the incident over the weekend, she wrote: “At just 3 years old, Nevada could not understand why he was being taken away from a game he loved. What should have been a happy childhood moment became heartbreaking and distressing for him and deeply painful for our family to witness.” Ms Griffin said the fundraiser is about  “more than one painful experience”. “It is about protecting Nevada’s passion for soccer and making sure this moment does not define his journey. As his mother, it has been incredibly hard to see the emotional impact this has had on him. We believe every child, regardless of abilities, background, or potential, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the game they love in a safe and supportive environment.”
The Former DUP leader had shown no “regret, apology or shame”, the court heard. Jeffrey Donaldson has been given a 15-year jail sentence for a series of historical sex offences against two women when they were children. Judge Paul Ramsey told Newry Crown Court that Donaldson, 63, had shown no “regret, apology or shame” after he was convicted of 18 offences, including one count of rape, earlier this year. The judge told the former Lagan Valley MP he had “doubled down on his denials” since his conviction for the offences committed between 1985 and 2008. “There has not been, and doubtless will not be, one word of regret, apology or shame from this man to at least provide his victims with some crumb of comfort,” he said. He said Donaldson had achieved many things in his political career but had now experienced a “catastrophic descent into disgrace”. The judge told Donaldson: “You are now 63 years of age. It is well known that you in the course of your political career have reached the very heights of public office, and this is, on any view, a catastrophic descent into disgrace. “It is only through the courage, resourcefulness, and determination of two young women that you’ve been brought to justice in respect of the crimes you committed against them when they were children. “You persistently denied these offences and continued to do so, but you’ve been found guilty by a jury, and it’s now my duty to sentence you for these crimes.” Donaldson has been in Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim awaiting sentencing since the end of the trial in June. The two victims gave evidence against him during the trial. One gave evidence of inappropriate touching and kissing by Donaldson, and another told the trial she had been raped as a child of primary school age by Donaldson and later sexually assaulted by him. Donaldson had denied the offences but the jury convicted him of one count of rape, 13 counts of indecent assault and four counts of gross indecency. Since his conviction, Jeffrey Donaldson has been stripped of his knighthood and removed from the Privy Council. His solicitor has previously confirmed that papers have been lodged for an appeal. His wife Eleanor Donaldson, 60, was found to have aided and abetted his crimes after a trial of the facts, which was granted on mental health grounds. Mrs Donaldson cannot be given a prison sentence but could be given a treatment order or an absolute discharge. She has also lodged an appeal against the outcome of her trial of the facts. #5News
