@julianthorne.us: Dame Esther Rantzen had one heartbreaking wish in her final days: she never wanted her children to remember her suffering. Her daughter, Rebecca Wilcox, has now revealed the emotional conversation they shared shortly before the legendary broadcaster passed away at 86 in September. Speaking on *Good Morning Britain* on Friday, Rebecca recalled how her mother's illness had become increasingly difficult, despite Esther wanting to remain in control of her final chapter. She revealed that her mother had always hoped to protect her family from witnessing her physical decline. But as her condition worsened, Esther reportedly told her daughter something Rebecca will never forget. "This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I didn't want you to see me like this," Esther told her. Rebecca explained that her mother still had the mental ability to make choices, but her physical condition had taken away some of her independence. The broadcaster had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2023. Earlier this year, her family revealed that treatment was no longer working and she was receiving palliative care. Esther had also campaigned for changes to Britain's assisted D*ing laws through the organization Dignity in Dying. Her daughter revealed that Esther had been prepared to travel to the Swiss organization Dignitas to pursue her end-of-life wishes, but eventually became too physically fragile to make the journey. Rebecca shared her mother's story while marking the 40th anniversary of Childline, the charity Esther founded to help vulnerable children. Despite everything they experienced, Rebecca said she would miss her mother more than she had ever imagined. Behind the famous broadcaster was a mother who wanted to protect her children right until the very end. **Do you believe terminally ill people should have the right to choose how they approach the end of their lives?** #EstherRantzen #RebeccaWilcox #Childline #HumanInterest #UKNews
