Btw this dance took me hours to learn
old-fashioned southern pinto beans & ham hocks 🤎 one of my favorite comfort meals! slow-cooked pinto beans, smoky ham hocks, and a rich, creamy broth. made these in my dutch oven and served with some good ol' jiffy cornbread! here's the full recipe! ingredients: • 1 lb dried pinto beans • 3 smoked ham hocks • 1 yellow onion, diced • 4 cloves garlic, minced • 2 tbsp butter • 1 tbsp olive oil • 7–8 cups water • 1½ tbsp better than bouillon chicken base • 2 bay leaves • 1 tsp black pepper • 1 tsp dried thyme • ½ tsp garlic powder • ½ tsp onion powder • ¼ tsp smoked paprika • ⅛ tsp cayenne (optional) to finish: • 2 tbsp butter • 1–2 tsp apple cider vinegar • salt & hot sauce to taste directions: 1. rinse your beans and cover with water. bring to a boil for 2 minutes, remove from heat, cover, and let soak for 1 hour. drain and rinse. 2. preheat oven to 325°F. heat butter and olive oil in a dutch oven. brown the ham hocks for 2–3 minutes per side, then remove. 3. add onion and cook for 8–10 minutes until softened and golden. add garlic and cook another minute. 4. stir in seasonings and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. 5. add beans, water, better than bouillon, and bay leaves. return ham hocks to the pot and bring to a gentle simmer. 6. cover and bake at 325°F for 2½–4 hours, until the beans are completely tender. check occasionally and add water as needed. 7. remove ham hocks, shred the meat, and return it to the pot. mash about a cup of beans to thicken the broth. 8. stir in butter and apple cider vinegar. adjust seasonings to taste and let rest for 15 minutes before serving! serve with cornbread and enjoy! 🤎 follow @_withbailey for more recipes! #southerncooking #southernfood #southernrecipes #comfortfood #pintobeans
