Investigators say she returned hours later carrying a bucket containing a flammable substance. But here's the disturbing part: police say she actually borrowed a lighter from a witness before allegedly pouring the liquid on Mathis and setting him on fire. Emergency responders discovered Mathis unconscious, suffering from burns covering at least 80 percent of his body. Doctors reported that his injuries were life-threatening and that he was not expected to survive. Shelton was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and arson.
