@brittanyalaine: I still remember my first year in Germany, I got all dressed up, carved a pumpkin, waited for trick-or-treaters… and no one came. I actually cried that night. 😅 Not anymore! Seeing them running from house to house, laughing and showing off their costumes brought back all the small-town Halloween memories I grew up with in the U.S. , that magical, wholesome chaos that makes you feel like a kid again. 🎃✨ I’m honestly so excited for the years to come! It feels so good making this small town my home. 🏡 What’s Halloween like where you live? •••••••••••••• Hi, I’m Brittany! 🙋♀️American living in the German countryside 🇩🇪 Sharing everyday culture shocks, traditions & immigrant life stories 🌍 follow @brittanyalaine for more about life in Germany ••••••••••••• #HalloweeninDeutschland #Landleben #americaningermany #lebenindeutschland #Kulturschock deutschland Auswanderin

Singing for candies is not for Halloween but St. Martin's Day.

It really depends where you live. Our neighborhood was full of kids trick or treating. Loads of jack o lanterns and several houses decorated. Many kids were dressed scary with blood and even knives. The kids where we live say “sweet or sour”. „Süßes oder Saures“

I'm German but I partly grew up in the US. Halloween was wonderful but back in Germany it somehow just didn't feel right.

Well to hand out candies you do scary costumes because of the children but gore is very much welcomed in every other part of Halloween

We always offer both candy and apples. (And they're allowed to take one of each.) They LOVE apples. Counteracts the industrial sugar and hydrates them which makes them able to go trick or treating for a good while longer than without apples. 😁 But we definitely do scary. I only have one eye from birth and one year I used fake blood to make it seem like my socket was bleeding. The smaller ones were a bit scared, sure, but... You've seen our playgrounds. We believe in preparing them for the world - in a somewhat safe way - and not coddling them too much. A bit of a scare but then a candy to soften the blow is alright.

That's how I said Hi to our little trick or treaters (huge black contact lenses included 😂). But only until 8pm, after that I had my annual Halloween Horror Stream 😂

We weren't home this year, but my (mostly grown) children dressed up for giving out candies. And were very sad and disappointed when not even one child showed up.
