Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything raises some interesting questions about Amanda Seyfried, her portrayal of Elizabeth in The Dropout, and the ethics of dramatizing real-life scandals. While I saw tons of Amanda Seyfried praise after You Can See Everything, I was shocked to see that some people found her to be “self righteous” and claim she didn’t come out of this looking the best. She by far had the most empathy out of anyone in this film and was the only one to any do real self-reflection on her actions and how they affected people (despite doing nothing wrong in her job as an actress). I think some people are severely misreading Amanda’s reaction to Elizabeth’s criticism just because she got a little flustered. While there’s a bigger conversation we could have as to whether all biopics or series/novels based on real life figures are exploitative in some way, you can’t put that all on Amanda, and based on Elizabeth’s insistence she did nothing wrong, there is NO version of the Theranos story you could put to screen that she wouldn’t claim was untrue. Let me know what YOU thought of Amanda’s role in YCSE!#YouCanSeeEverything #ElizabethHolmes #TheDropout #AmandaSeyfried #filmtok
