@thelisakays: Replying to @Lexi Harford Will add this book to my list in my bookshop. It’s a real one. So many parallels between witch hunts and what we still put women through when it comes control, abuse and power. Nice work, @Witches of Scotland! (Not medical advice. Psychoeducational only.) #MentalHealth #narcissisticabuserecovery #women #coercivecontrol #genx
I had two different marriage therapists ask to see me individually and talk to me about sociopathy and narcissism of my ex husband and I was in denial that it was happening- I was convinced it was me who was the problem bc everyone loved him and hated me including my family. I was constantly confused and shamed ugh been out 14 years and then the abuse continued after I left and didn’t see that for a while either still thinking I wasn’t doing a good job at coparenting

literally the only thing that was useful to me during that time was Lundy Bancrofts "Why Does He Do That?" & now I've also heard that there have been accusations levied at him for abuse/misconduct and tbh thats heartbreaking considering how much that clarity meant to me & every other survivor I know. To be fair, Idk any details of the claims about him, but I can only assume that they must be at least reasonably credible or they wouldn't be circulating in discussion around him & his work pretty consistently.

Omg, ive NEVER heard that saying but after a decade of abuse and analyzing it and how i would have know and seeing others abusive relationships i had come to that conclusion. The easiest fastest indicator is regular confusion. Holy HELL i wish id known that phrase sooner. Teaching my kids that though!

IFS gets a lot of stuff wrong especially with people like me who have DID. Is it helpful in the beginning stages of diagnosis and treatment whike setting up a new internal POV for alters? Yes, yes it is but it leaves out that most people with dissociative disorders who were created by massive early child abuse, are NOT cookie cutter and will NOT fit into their narrative about what alters were supposed to be crated and why they were. It ignored systemic abuse and was basically discarded after I “met” my alters and got to know them and when they were created bc it was useless after that! Like thanks now eff off 😂. EMDR & schema was what actually helped me the most and didn’t influence anything internally like cbt/dbt and ifs does! The same therapy that made the dissociation and confusion WORSE over decades including all the misdiagnosis that continued to happen to me until I randomly met my former therapist who clocked me right out the gate and actually helped me using pieces and parts of orher modalities of therapy that applied to where I was at during the moment. She was like a therapy sen’se 😂. I’m so glad I didn’t actually go to couples counseling n with my ex husband bc I would have ended my own life instead of sought out actual help for the abuse he was doing that also perfectly lined up with what I endured as a child. He was triggering me into the void unable to escape him or my own life bc I the self wasn’t aware of anything
