@realmortgagementor: Pay off your mortgage in half the time? - #realestate #mortgage #mortgagetips #homebuyer #homeownership - E Mortgage Capital Inc. NMLS 1439141
when an older person says "we took the 30 year mortgage because it is so much less" just stop listening. Great advice in the wrong time. When he bought they were looking at 15 year mortgages because houses were cheap and his wife went "but fred..look at the 30.. its soooooo cheap". Today you have to sell a kidney every month for the 30.

Don't do this.
Instead put that money into investments. Assume your mortgage is 3% and your investments average 5%. You make more money investing that money than paying off your mortgage

well it’s fully dependent on the size of the additional payment … so yeah it can be 17 years. it could be 10 years or 5 if you’re making very large extra payments.

I feel like he said 17 years because that’s how long he paid it off in

Tru but it’s not horrible advice. U can always way a 30 year mortgage like it’s a 15 but when the economy crashes or you lose your job you don’t have to be as worried about losing your house because your monthly payment is lower

I will be opening an offset account be dumping money like crazy into it. If calculate correctly, should have it paid off in 6-8 years

The interest is calculated daily so by actually just paying the mortgage weekly will cut it down by a couple years. some banks will allow all an offset so adding to that as well as paying weekly. you'll cut a few more years off too. so no need for extra payments if you know the system. plus if you just have it in your offset you can take it out without repocussions

Yeah he was talking about making more than just one extra payment so yes you can definitely get it down to 17 years but not with only one extra…read between the lines and you’ll see what he was actually talking about

30 year mortgage paid off in 12. Rounded up to the nearest hundred, Christmas bonus straight to the mortgage. At five year renewal, kept the payments the same. At the six year mark we were paying more principal than interest every two weeks.

there's a difference between an extra payment and paying towards principle. If you wanna pay just towards principle you need to make sure to let them know when you make the payment

Depends on the size of the loan & the interests rates you get, over the course of the mortgage/loan.

I had a 25 year mortgage, paid it off in 17 years. I paid weekly, that way every 5 week month I made an extra payment, plus I added extra to each weekly payment, starting at $25/week and gradually increasing as I made more money.

well that man starting his mortgage payments sometime in the 70s when you could buy a house with an income of $3.25/hr and still have savings.

For my 25 year mortgage In my 6 year term I was able to bring the total duration of the Mortgage to 19. So I paid off 1 extra year. But by doing this it also puts more of your money straight towards your principal and not the interest. That also helps lower the amount of years you’ll have a mortgage
