Last week, I had an engineer message me a wireless tip to share with you all. So here's his story: Troubleshooting wireless issues is never fun. Guessing which closet the AP runs to, checking the controller to see what's offline... It takes a lot of time. During a project to install new AP's, he realized you could store a lot of information in a QR code. QR codes can be easily scanned with a phone to get any details needed for installing or troubleshooting. After installing the QR codes on the front of all AP's, their team had users scan the code to give them the info when reporting any issues. An absolute game changer for resolving issues faster. Would you use this wireless trick? P.S. If you have a story you'd like to share, DM me or comment below!! #informationtechnology #networking #networkengineer #sysadmin #wifi #wireless

Why would you host an application on a switch? (and more importantly, should you??) Use cases such as: Smart grids Smart traffic lights Industrial IoT devices Autonomous vehicles Mobile gaming devices Retail analytics cameras Content delivery networks In-hospital patient monitoring Predictive maintenance sensors Virtualised radio networks and 5G (vRAN) Energy grid management devices Public transportation systems Augmented reality headsets Smart farming equipment Predictive maintenance Healthcare wearables Autonomous vehicles Smart home systems Security systems Cloud gaming Drones All require low latency decision making. By offloading some of the workload to the edge, you can make decisions locally instead of in centralized servers to help reduce latency and bandwidth. On Catalyst switches like the 9300 and 9400, you can host applications directly on the switch. Typically, I see monitoring apps like WireShark or ThousandEyes being hosted. But the options are endless! What would you host on your switch? P.S. Would you ever host AI on your switch?? 🧐 #informationtechnology #networking #networkengineer #apphosting #edgecompute #technology
