The Druze are a religious and ethnic community that originated in the Middle East, mainly in the mountainous regions of Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, although smaller communities also exist in Jordan and across the diaspora (especially in South and North America). Their faith emerged as an esoteric branch of Shia Ismaili Islam, but over time it developed independently and is now considered a distinct religion of its own. Origins The Druze religion traces its origins to the 11th century, during the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt. It was formally established around 1017, when the Fatimid caliph Al-Ḥākim bi-Amr Allāh was proclaimed a divine manifestation by one of his followers, Hamza ibn ‘Alī ibn Ahmad, who is regarded as the main founder and theologian of the Druze faith. The movement also takes its name from Muhammad al-Darazī, another preacher who spread its early teachings, though he was later rejected by the Druze themselves for his radical interpretations. After facing persecution from Islamic authorities, the Druze sought refuge in the mountainous areas of Lebanon and Syria, where they managed to preserve their religion and identity. Over the centuries, they formed tight-knit, autonomous communities, known for their discipline, loyalty, and self-governance. Beliefs The Druze faith blends elements of Ismaili Islam, Greek philosophy (especially Plato and Aristotle), Gnosticism, and other mystical traditions. It is monotheistic, though it interprets God in a deeply philosophical and symbolic way. Some of its core beliefs include: Oneness of God: belief in one absolute, transcendent God beyond human comprehension. Reincarnation of the soul: souls are eternal and reincarnate continuously until reaching spiritual perfection. Religious secrecy: the deeper teachings of the faith are known only to the initiated members (uqqāl), while the rest (juhhāl) live according to ethical and social principles of the community. Ethics and conduct: strong emphasis on honesty, loyalty, mutual aid, and defense of the community. No proselytism: the Druze neither accept converts nor allow members to leave the faith; one must be born Druze. Modern Identity Today, the Druze are recognized as an important religious and cultural minority in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine. Although their faith remains secretive, Druze individuals actively participate in the political, military, and social life of their countries. Despite their small numbers (around one million worldwide), they have preserved their identity for nearly a millennium thanks to their unity, discipline, and strong sense of community. #fyp #edit #druze #syria #viralvideos
