There’s so many things we need to unpack this Black people as what has been deemed socially and culturally acceptable as black Americans and this country a lot of it is rooted in acceptable blackness for the white gaze, but what does that mean in modernity? Tuskegee University just implemented a dress code campuswide limiting Black people from wearing bonnets and do rags which serve hair protection in our functional part of us being casual at home and taking care of us with grooming, sweats and many other things that white students wear and white students aren’t blamed for some type of cultural deviance or cultural letdown. If white privilege allows for casualness, why is Black comfort treated like a moral failure? We’ve been taught that if we just dress, act, and speak

But history has proven over and over again: you cannot perform your way out of systemic racism. Corporate environments are changing, power uniforms are changing, yet we are still holding our students to 1995 corporate standards while their white peers at PWIs enjoy the freedom of existing carelessly.
