@littleblossomdarling: do you know busks were such an important part of the function of corsets? busks are interestingly- a very common piece of scrimshaw which was folk art made by sailors and whalers, who given how long sea journeys could be- would often make beautiful intricate art from various whale bones and baleen. and then would be given to their lovers upon finally returning home! #LearnOnTikTok #fashionhistory #corset
so you're saying... i could make a character have a hidden busk blade in their corset

I read a historical vampire novel where the main character who was a vampire hunter kept a wooden stake in place of a busk 😍

have you ever watched the green valley/historical farm series? it's not just farming, they cover the day to day clothing worn by farmers and ruth Goodman mentioned a busk she saw in a collection that said something along the lines of "to my dear sister, don't break this one!"

I think one of my favourite facts I've ever learned about busks was one that was carved by a brother to his sister. it said something to the effect of "dont break this one"

since some busks are metal, would it be possible to freeze them before putting them into the corset so they have a cooling effect on the wearer? or is there too much fabric to have any impact?

Huh. I wonder if the etymological history of the word "busking" (as in street performing) is completely unrelated? 🤔
